I know if you did this on a mortgage application, it would be a felony. But I don't think it's that serious on the rental application. The problem of course is if your income is 50% of what you told them, they won't rent to you. Another problem is the lack of freelance records--how the heck do you do your taxes correctly if you don't have records? Update - as for your freelance income, if you can't prove you make it with pay stubs, W2's or tax returns for the last three years, then in did not happen, and it will not be counted as income.
