Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote
Posted on July 10th, 2010 by admin
Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. The display properly reacts to head and body movement as if it were a real window creating a realistic illusion of depth and space. By Johnny Chung Lee, Carnegie Mellon University. @bowlingwithzombies …
@bowlingwithzombies The software shown in this video is all running on Windows XP. But there are no drivers to my knowledge that will allow you to use it as head tracking in other games or anything. Unless you’re a programmer you’re out of luck.

Right. Hope no one …
Right. Hope no one else has already suggested this. But how about using the 3d polarising lenses to achieve some 2 player action with this? Each player wears a pair of glasses with lenses that polarise the same, rather than left and right being out of sync 180deg. The processor then works out where each player is and shows them the perspective that they need to see, on the frequency their glasses are in sync with. Would it work?
