@jetzaber It’s a picture book. There are lots of them already, but it’s just in 3D. But like you say plain text makes for vivid imagery!

    The goal of reading …
The goal of reading bedtime stories to children is to force their imagination and not to show them, how someone else thinks what a giant looks like.

Very nice! And then…when everybodies face is collected from facebook, and all info is related to your face in realtime, any camera can see your whole life when you walk down the street! WAKE UP!

    They should use …
They should use this for maps. Then you could always know where you are, and where the nearest subway is. :]

    More hyped …
More hyped technology. Some PhD wrote a paper and coined the term Augmented Reality and some folks act like the world is about to be saved. So far, all the examples I’ve seen have sucked. Technology is no answer to a poorly developed training plan or badly written storyline. This is really nothing new, just an application of existing technologies. The only thing new is the term Augmented Reality.

I think if we mix this with the devices that read brain signals, we can even make visible what we imagine, but I until then I agree with you.

You can get this as …
You can get this as a plug-in for google sketchup, for free! just google. I hooked up my MacBook to my tv and showed it off to my family. The where amazed. It does not work perfectly though. Whenever u download it print the maker on tough paper that doesent bend.

I think it is bad for a childs creativity and imagination to have the story being generated in 3D…but still, nice technology!

I guess this thing is not that valuable after all. You can get the same effect with something like virtual reality helmet and a comp – no need for additional books and goggles.

  24. ravel111 Says:

    …seems really …
…seems really ingenious, creating a visual tour guide of the city as long as the markers are in place and tourists had access to rented goggles. Great for popular tourist areas. The uses in museums for educational purposes are great to make learning fun for kids as well- they talked about this. Of course, none of this is really ESSENTIAL, but there is potential and that’s all that matters.

  25. ravel111 Says:

    Why all the …
Why all the hostility towards this new technology? I’m sure it has some good uses that creative people will come up with eventually and as the technology becomes more advance. Right now I guess it has large potential for commercial use if there is a way to make widespread use of the lenses easy/accessible. Perhaps in places like amusement parks or motion-simulator rides? Imagine Shrek 3D with augmented reality goggles instead! Or perhaps on a roller coaster? The city map idea they showed
