To rational adults (not religious people), the difference between dogma and reality is quite obvious. But to children who still believe in Santa, God and the Tooth Fairy, the difference between dogma and reality is not easy to determine. Children rely on adults to teach them about reality but if adults are teaching children about Santa, God and the Tooth Fairy, then this can’t be doing them any good, right?

You would first have to know what reality is.
